Genelia D’Souza, one of Bollywood’s most beloved stars, has broken her long silence regarding her time away from the silver screen. In a recent interview, the actress addressed the speculations about her break from acting, her family life, and her fond memories of working with some of the industry’s most respected actors—including John Abraham.
“I Was Never Really Gone”
Genelia emphasized that her step back from the spotlight was a personal decision. “I needed time to live life beyond the arc lights—to raise my children, support my husband, and reflect on what kind of work I want to do moving forward,” she explained.
Clearing the Air on Rumors
For years, rumors circulated that Genelia had quit the film industry. In response, she said, “I never said I was done with acting. I just wasn’t chasing it. Sometimes, the industry wants constant visibility, but I was at peace building a life off-camera.”
Working with John Abraham
Reflecting on her early career, Genelia spoke warmly about working with John Abraham in the 2004 romantic drama “Force”. “John was one of the most respectful and focused co-stars I’ve worked with,” she said. “He brought so much depth to the film, and we had a great working relationship built on mutual trust and professionalism.”
Their chemistry in “Force” was widely praised, and the film remains one of her most critically appreciated roles. “Those were the days I was really exploring who I was as an actor, and John made that process enjoyable,” she added.
Support from Riteish Deshmukh
Genelia also spoke about her life with husband Riteish Deshmukh, highlighting his unwavering support. “Riteish has always encouraged me to return to work only when I felt ready. His support gave me the freedom to step away without guilt.”
Comeback on the Cards?
When asked if she plans to return to films, Genelia hinted that discussions are underway. “Yes, I’m reading scripts. I’m looking for roles that resonate with the woman I’ve become. If something truly connects, you’ll see me on screen again.”
